Taylor and Lockert win at Stanford Invitational

The Stanford Invitational is usually a pretty good indicator of early season track and field talent and judging from last weekend, the Empire appears to have some section-bound, as well as state-qualifying competitors on board.

Casa Grande junior Jacque Taylor won the girls’ mile in 4:54.32. She placed second at state last year in the 1,600 meters and was fourth in the 3,200 at state as a freshman.

The Casa Grande girls, with Taylor running the anchor leg, won the seldom run girls distance medley, in a time of 12:16.71. Casa Grande finished ahead of California, Bishop O’Dowd and St. Mary’s of Berkeley.

Then the Casa Grande girls finished second in the 4x800 relay in a time of 9:35.25. Oak Ridge was first in 9:33.91.

It was also a good weekend for Petaluma and its strong group of boys middle distance runners.
